Sleeping in Chengdu Tianfu Airport
Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU) is more sleep-friendly than many new Chinese hubs, but a chair in the terminal is still a chair. If you want a door that closes, the capsule hotel in Terminal 2 and the two Joyhub buildings between the terminals are the usual answers.
What to expect in the terminal
Terminal 2 publishes overnight rest zones. Landside, lounge chairs are on both sides of the L2 arrivals hall, partly screened by plants. Airside, rest areas are near gates 216 and 232, with charging seats and chairs. Overnight passengers with a boarding pass can collect complimentary toiletries at the Terminal 2 airside L2 central enquiry desk from 19:00 to 01:30, and borrow a blanket and charging cable to return before boarding. Lights, announcements and cleaning continue. Keep documents on you.
Terminal 1 is the international terminal. A free 24-hour transit lounge near Gate 115 has been reported for eligible international connections within 48 hours; confirm eligibility at the airport, because access rules change.
A bed inside Terminal 2
Take A Nap Hotel is a capsule hotel landside in Terminal 2, about 100 metres left of arrivals exit B2. Cabins are private, air-conditioned sleeping pods, not full hotel rooms. Some card programmes include a short daytime stay; overnight hours are usually paid directly. See sleep pods and rest zones.
A proper room a short walk away
Tianfu Joyhub Cheer Hotel (524 rooms) and Tianfu Joyhub Air Hotel (329 rooms) stand between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, connected to the Ground Transportation Centre. Cheer is the usual value pick; Air is the full-service neighbour. Neither is a Shuangliu hotel.
If you are arriving late and would rather not walk with bags, Holiday Inn Express Chengdu Tianfu Airport Zone publishes a complimentary shuttle, but it is not 24 hours (IHG lists 06:00 to 22:00). After that window, a taxi to Wanhui Center or a walk to Joyhub is the realistic choice.
Chengdu’s two airports
Do not sleep at the wrong airport. Shuangliu (CTU) is southwest of the city; Tianfu is southeast. Hotels at Shuangliu are covered at chengduairporthotel.com.
